South Africa’s Minister of Transport Assures That Security Will be a Priority During the World Cup 2010
The safety of those who will attend 2010 World Cup in South Africa is getting more and more exposure and according the organizers of the World Football Championship visitors will be safe in South Africa during the event.
The SA Minister of Transport, Sibusiso Ndebele said at the 2010 National Communication Partnership Conference that the country will do everything necessary to make sure the event will go smooth and be as secure as possible.
In another statement, Ndebele told that South African law enforcement agencies are improving their capacity, particularly for such popular events.
Sibusiso Ndebele:”The safety of our people and our visitors is non-negotiable.”
The Minister also said that SA law enforcement agencies have already proven that they are able to cope with the security issues of important international events during the past years, such as the Confederations Cup.Also he stated that they will continue improving and will be ready to neutralize any potential security threats.
Senior Superintendent Vish Naidoo, who is the spokesperson of the South African Police, has also confirmed the security of the visitors of World Cup 2010 in South Africa will be granted.
Naturally, more such assurances are expected from South Africa during the months before the event.

Five More Teams Qualified for the World Cup 2010 Finals
Five more teams in addition to the host - South Africa have qualified for the finals of FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa after less than a year.
South Africa, as host country of course are automatically qualified, but now they have also been joined by Brazil, Ghana, England, Spain and Paraguay. England beat Croatia 5-1 and Spain won against Estonia with 3-0, which matches confirmed their tickets to South Africa next year. The Asian teams of Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Australia and European team of Netherlands were the first five teams surely to take part in the World Football championship. Japan confirmed their participation in the finals on sixth of after they overtook Uzbekistan with 1-0 in Tashkent. Australia joined them with fantastic play - without conceding a goal in the 6 qualifying matches. South Korea was the next team to join the World Cup finals after a victory over the United Arab Emirates with 2-0 in Dubai. The Netherlands won with 2-1 against Iceland, which made them the first team from the Old Continent that will play on the finals. North Korea was also able to confirm their place at the final matches on seventeenth of June when they won against Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.

Visa for FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
South Africa's Department of Home Affairs will provide with various measures to ensure smooth flow of visitors for the FIFA World Cup 2010, which will also include an Event Visa for the World Football Chmpionship.
These special ‘event visas' will be absolutely free for the football tourists and will be only available for those who can provide a proof that they already have bought a ticket for one of the matches that will be played across the South Africa’s stadiums during the event in 2010.
Minister Mapisa-Nqakula assured that issuing the World Cup 2010 Event Visa would in no way compromise the security and except the usual security screening process the department will also scan lists of football hooligans and ticket brokers.
In addition to the Event Visas, the Department of Home Affairs also announced their plans to speed up the process via their “advanced passenger processing” programme.
Also it has been announced that there will be South African immigration officials at some of the foreign airports to process these travellers, including airports in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, India, Hong Kong, Dubai.
To ensure the smooth implementation of these intentions, the Department of Home Affairs has assured that there will be enough immigration officials to manage the huge number of visitors that is expected to visit one of the most interesting sporting events in 2010.

The Mascot for World Cup 2010 in South Africa Anounced. It Will be a Leopard Named Zakumi
The mascot for the 2010 Football Championship in South Africa will be a leopard called Zakumi. The name comes from the abbreviature ZA, which defines South Africa and the word KUMI which stands for 10 - the number of languages in the continent of Africa.
As Danny Jordaan explained, the mascot “birth year” is the same year as the South Africa’s democracy “birth date”. According to the CEO of the local organising committee for 2010 FIFA World Cup, Zakumi is a proud South African citizen and an excellent ambassador for the first World Football Championship that will be held in Africa. Zakumi is young, vigorous, smart and ambitious, and is a real inspiration for the football fans across the world.
Creator of the nice mascot’s design is Andries Odendaal from Cape Town, and Zakumi's costume was made up by Cora Simpson of Cora's Costumes in Boksburg.
